Shakuhachi Flute with Rev. Thomas Okano, Wednesdays at 2 p.m. and Thursdays at 5p.m.

MUST own instrument or have access to one.

The playing of the shakuhachi as identifiable tradition can be traced to the Fuke Zen Sect of Buddhism. For the followers of Fuke Zen the playing of the shakuhachi was a form of religious practice. The Tozan School is the transition from the religious to the secular. The shakuhachi has a beautiful sound, which is a challenge to produce. The process of finding the sound can be a process that is engaging, mindful, and rewarding.
