 r Speaker\nRev. Dr. Aaron Shoken Proffitt is an ordained Jodo Shinshu mi
 nister and associate professor of Japanese Studies at the East Asian Stu
 dies Department at the University at Albany — State University of New 
 York.\n\nOriginally from Lynchburg\, Tennessee\, Rev. Dr. Proffitt recei
 ved his B.A. and M.A. in religious studies from the University of Colora
 do and his PhD in Buddhist studies from the University of Michigan. \n\n
 He studied Japanese at the Inter-University Center in Yokohama from 2009
  to 2010 and conducted research as a Fulbright Fellow at Otani Universit
 y\, Koyasan University\, and Ryukoku University from 2014 to 2015.\n\nHe
  serves as the Buddhist chaplain at the University of Albany Interfaith 
 Center and for the Buddhist Student Association. \n\nIn 2019\, he co-fou
 nded the Albany Buddhist Sangha (albanybuddhist.org)\, a diverse\, famil
 y-oriented temple serving the greater New York state capital area.\n\nAb

  1974 with Dr. Alfred Bloom and Dr. Mokusen Miyuki. For over 50 years di

 ude: Dr. Taitetsu Unno\, Rev. Gyomay Kubose\, Dr. George Tanabe\, Prof.
