????Summer Session Speaking Tour: Hawaii District

Please join us for the Hawaii Island District Summer Session Speaking Tour, with Dr. Scott Mitchell.  The topic of this presentation will be “Japanese American Jōdo Shinshū Buddhists built religious infrastructure in the modern Buddhism in the USA”. He will draw on the research for his forthcoming book, Mid-Century Modern Buddhism. The book is about Buddhism in the United States before, during, and after World War II, when Nisei Jōdo Shinshū Buddhists reacted to the trauma of racial and religious discrimination by laying claim to an American identity inclusive of their religious identity.

This will take place at Kona Hongwanji, on June 26th, from 5 PM to 6:30 PM. Please be advised that registration is required.
