Koichi Sensei’s presentation will be followed at 11 a.m. by a hands-on sushi party, highlighting his sushi chef skills! After lunch, the seminar will end with a discussion for the attendees with the topic being “How to get more people involved.”

More about Koichi Mizushima
Koichi Mizushima graduated from the University of California, Davis in 1995 with a B.S. in Management Economics. He was part-owner of three restaurants: “Taiko Sushi” from 1996 – 1997, “Osaka Sushi” from 1999 – 2004, and “Kamon Japanese Restaurant” from 1998 – 2013.

Koichi Mizushima, BCA Youth CoordinatorDuring this time, he was active at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento (Sacramento Betsuin). Koichi Sensei re-established their Jr. YBA Program in 1998 and co-taught 1st grade Dharma school from 1997 – 2003. He has been co-chair of the Sushi Booth at the Sacramento Betsuin annual bazaar from 2000 to the present and was their Programs Director from 2014 – 2019. Koichi Sensei has been a Minister’s Assistant at the Sacramento Betsuin since 2003 and completed the Jodo Shinshu Correspondence Course in 2017.

In 2018, Koichi Sensei began working for the BCA as their Youth Coordinator and also joined the BCA Center for Buddhist Education staff. In 2021 he became the BCA Ministerial Benefits Coordinator. He presently continues in all three positions. His family includes his wife Janet, daughter Ellie (a second year student at UC Davis), and their dog Chuck.

To attend in person, please register at the Hilo Betsuin office (398 Kilauea Ave.) by March 21. Fee of $10 for adults and $5 for youth requested for lunch and materials.
