Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii (HHMH), its Commission on Buddhist Education, and its Committee on Social Concerns invite you to “LGBTQIA+ 101” on Saturday, April 22. Providing an opportunity to learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community is one way HHMH can pursue its mission of ensuring that “all beings may enjoy lives of harmony, peace, and gratitude.”
The session will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 and people are welcome to attend either in person at the Buddhist Study Center (1436 University Ave in Honolulu) or online via Zoom.
Camaron Miyamoto, Director of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Queer+ (LGBTQ+) Center at UH Mānoa will be a featured speaker. There will also be a panel of members and families of the LGBTQIA+ community who are also a part of the Hongwanji organization.
Topics for the session include:
- Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, ally and more identities
- An appreciation for the unique lives of LGBTQIA+ people
- Ways to be supportive and compassionate allies for LGBTQIA+ people
- Ways to build respect, harmony, peace and gratitude for all
