“The Collected Works” is becoming the central reference for the understanding of Shin Buddhism. A translation of all Shinran’s major texts, replacing small volumes of separate works, it is indispensable for study.
“LARGER PURE LAND SUTRA” (Sukhavativyuha) — The central Sutra in the trilogy of Pure Land Sutras, selected by Shinran as his foundational text.
“THE SUTRA OF CONTEMPLATION” — The second key text in the trilogy. It is of major importance in the development of lay Pure Land teaching.
“SMALLER PURE LAND SUTRA” (Amidakyo) — The third in the trilogy, also known as “The Amida Sutra,” was translated into Chinese by Tripitaka Master Kumarajiva in the beginning of the 5th century. It describes the Pure Land and is used in funeral services.
